Tome and Smith win Hockey Player of the Week Awards

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its Ice Hockey Player of the Week Awards, presented by PCC Sports, earlier today. Student-athletes are nominated by their host institutions' sports information department and selected via a vote by conference SID's.

This week, the WHAC SIDs have chosen Lawrence Tech's Brett Tome as the Defensive Player of the Week and Indiana Tech's Avery Smith as the Offensive Player of the Week. This is the third time this season Smith has won the award. Tome had a stellar weekend between the pipes for Lawrence Tech who pulled off the two-game sweep of previously undefeated No.15 UM-Dearborne. Tome made 67 saves over the weekend including a career-high 37 in a 5-3 win on Friday. He followed that up with a 30-save shutout on Saturday. Smith helped the Warriors cruise by Rochester in the two-game series, scoring three goals with six assists for nine points.
