2023-24 Men's Basketball Honors Announced
The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced conference honors for the 2023-24 men's basketball season. First and Second Team All-Conference consist of 10 individuals per team, unless there are ties. Additional awards include: All-Defensive Team (five members), All-Freshman Team (five members), Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Coach of the Year, Champion of Character Coach, Champion of Character Team and All-Academic. Awards are selected based on a vote of all WHAC men's basketball head coaches.
Brandon Beavers of Lawrence Tech was named the WHAC Player of the Year. The senior guard led the conference in points per game (21), is second in rebounds per game (8.3) and steals (57) and third in assists (133). He is also the Lawrence Tech all-time scoring leader with 1,997 points.
Cory Ainsworth of Cornerstone was named the WHAC Defensive Player of the Year. Ainsworth led the conference in blocks with 44 in conference games and 56 on the season. His 56 blocks rank him 9th in the NAIA.
The Newcomer of the Year awards went to Shaunn Monroe of Lourdes. The junior transfer led the league in steals (52), was fifth in assists (95) and was top-ten in points (389) and points per game (17.7).
Coaches selected Madonna Head Coach Noel Emenhesier as the Coach of the Year for leading the Crusaders to a WHAC regular season title, their first in school history. Josh Pickens of Lawrence Tech and Domenic Policicchio III of UM-Dearborn were named Co-Champion of Character Coaches following a tie in the voting process. This award goes to the coach who best represents the NAIA Core Values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
In addition to All-Conference awards, the WHAC also released its All-Academic and Champions of Character honors. The All-Academic Team consists of sophomores or above in academic standing with a cumulative 3.25 GPA who have been in attendance at their school for one full year. The Champions of Character Team is comprised of one player from each school who best represents the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
