Indiana Tech and Aquinas Advance at Men's Lacrosse Nationals

PENSACOLA, Fla. - (NAIA Release) - Both of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) teams won their opening round games at the 2022 NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Invitational at Ashton Brosnaham Athletic Park. Undefeated and top-seeded Indiana Tech defeated Benedictine (Kan.) 20-14 and sixth-seeded Aquinas upset No. 3 St. Ambrose (Iowa) 10-5. Both teams advance the semifinals scheduled for Thursday, May 12. Indiana Tech faces Cumberlands (Ky.) at 4 p.m. while Aquinas faces Reinhardt (Ga.) in the nightcap at 7 p.m.

No. 1 Indiana Tech def. No. 8 Benedictine (Kan.) 20-14
Indiana Tech led wire-to-wire as the Warriors got two quick goals in the first five minutes of play thanks to Andrew Ryan. The Raves answereed with a goal a couple of minutes later only to have Tech roll off three straight scores for a 5-1 lead. Benedicting responded with three unanswered goals of their own for a 5-4 Tech lead at the end of the first quarter. It was as close as Benedictine would get as IT scored eight in the second period while holding the oppenent to just two. BC gave the No. 1 team in the country a scare in the third, outscoring Tech 5-1, but the Warriors ended with a six-goal fourth to improve to 17-0. Ryan finished with six goals and Chad Nedbal recorded 16 saves to lead IT. Benedictine's Loud notched 12 saves and four different players scored three goals each as the Ravens finished at 10-7.


No. 6 Aquinas (Mich.) def. No. 3 St. Ambrose (Iowa) 10-5
The Saints netted three first-period goals started by Joey Fitzgerald while blanking St. Ambrose and proceeded to outscore the Bees every quarter after. With a 3-1 lead, AQ scored twice in the closing seconds of the second for a 5-1 lead at the half. The Saints opened up the lead with four goals in the third and scored one more in the final quarter to improve to 11-4. Mitch Haggart netted four goals and Clayton Boerighter made 21 saves in the winning effort. SAU was led by Nolan Hayes' 16 saves as five others scored one goal each as SAU ended its season at 14-4.
