Men's Soccer Semifinals both decided in Shootout

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - (TOURNAMENT PAGE) - Both of the 2021 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Men's Soccer Tournament semifinals went into shootouts to determine which teams advanced. Top-seeded Indiana Tech advanced over No. 4 Aquinas 6-5 on PKs while second-seeded UNOH advanced over No. 3 Lawrence Tech 4-3 on PKs.

UNOH now travels to Indiana Tech for the tournament championship match on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m.

#1 Indiana Tech (15-1-3) tied #4 Aquinas (7-5-4), 1-1 (IT advances on 6-5 shootout)
Maxwell Amoako scored on a pass from Pep Casas at the 23:04 mark to give Indiana Tech a 1-0 lead that lasted until the second half. Aquinas finally answered on a ball from Theo Maye in the 52nd minute to even the score. Jared Ireland made nine saves, inclding two the second half, to send it to overtime. The Warriors went on the offensive in the first overtime, but Aquinas blocked back-to-back shots and new goalie Antonio Strassioto had three saves to force a second overtime. After another blocked shot by Aquinas and a few wide shots from Indiana Tech, the match went to a shootout. IT missed its first PK and Aquinas made its first one. Both teams made the next two PKs and Tech made its fourth try, but Aquinas missed to even the PKs at 3-3. Both teams again made their next two, but Aquinas missed the seventh PK after IT connected to advance.

#2 UNOH (9-5-4) tied #3 Lawrence Tech (12-5-2), 0-0 (UNOH advances on 4-3 shootout)
UNOH was on the offensive the entire match, outshooting the Blue Devils 17-7 and had 8 shots on goal, only to be denied by Marko Matovski each time, the last one at the 87:45 mark to send the match into overtime. Both overtimes were played with neither team getting a good look at the goal and forced the shootout. Both teams made their first PKs, but LTU missed the next two high. UNOH missed its fourth PK, but made the fifth shot to advance the Racers.
