Aquinas, Indiana Tech, Madonna and UNOH advance to WHAC MSOC semifinals

It was beginning to look like all of the top seeds would advanced to the semifinal as #1 Aquinas, #2 Indiana Tech and #3 Madonna all took care of business to kickoff the day. But the night game between #4 Lourdes and #5 UNOH would bring the only upset of the quarterfinal round as UNOH advanced on PKs, 4-2. The semifinal round is set to take place on Wednesday, Nov. 8.

#1 Aquinas def. #8 Siena Heights 4-1

Regular season champion Aquinas scored the first goal and the eventual game winner in the 33rd minute via a Josh Freeman-Wright goal and never looked back. Freeman-Wright was joined in the scoring column by Andrea Ghiggini, Joshua Clemitson, and Jasper Schinkel. Siena Heights found the net in the 87th minute when Marcelo Rocha scored. Aquinas advanced to host #5 UNOH.

#2 Indiana Tech def. #7 Cornerstone 3-0

WHAC Regular season runner-up Indiana Tech also handled its business on Saturday as they earned a 3-0 win over #7 Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon in Fort Wayne. The Warriors Ryan Steele scored in the 45th minute to send Indiana Tech into the half up 1-0. The Warriors would pitch the shutout and added two more goals in the 46th and 57th minutes to earn the 3-0 win. They will host Madonna on Wednesday.

#3 Madonna def. #6 Lawrence Tech 2-1

Madonna took the lead in the fifth minute with a goal from Yan Brun but Lawrence Tech found the equalizer in the 19th minute to make it 1-1. That would be all the scoring until Madonna's Yan Brun scored his second unassisted goal of the day, this time in the 90th minute to punch Madonna's ticket to the semifinal round. #3 Madonna will travel to Fort Wayne to play #2 Indiana Tech on Wednesday.

#5 UNOH def. #4 Lourdes 1-1 (PKs)

The final match of the quarterfinal round was an instant classic as #5 UNOH and #4 Lourdes played to a 1-1 tied after two overtimes. Moritz Guettel put the Racers ahead with a goal in just the 6th minutes and that would be all the scoring until Rolando Benitez scored the equalizer in the 30th minute. After two scoreless overtime periods, it went to PKs, where UNOH won 4-2 to advance to the semifinals to take on #1 Aquinas.
