Six Teams Remain at WHAC Softball Tourney
SYVANIA, Ohio - (Tournament Page) - The 2022 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Softball Tournament is down to six teams after the opening night of play. Top-seeded Madonna and second-seeded UM-Dearborn both advanced in the winner's bracket after winning both of their games. The seedind held as seeds 3-6 remain in the loser's bracket while No. 7 Lawrence Tech and No. 8 Siena Heights were eliminated.
Every game featured a home run except the Madonna vs. Aquinas game. UM-Dearborn's Aspen Starr his two on the day while Emily Pawelski of Madonna, Darrien Roberts of Aquinas, Micaela Iacovetti of Indiana Tech, Jolie Groenevel of Cornerstone, and UNOH's Anna Ankney and Tess Denning each hit a shot.
The final game of the night took nine innings to declare a winner LTU and Cornerstone were tied at 8-8 at the end of seven. In the bottom of the ninth, Sydney Carr doubled to right field for Cornerstone and advanced to third on a fly out from Delaney Wilson. LTU intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases with one out before Jocelyn Hernandez singled to the pitcher to score the winning run.
Thursday's games start at noon with two elimination games and then the matchup between No. 1 and No. 2 following at 2:30 p.m.
