Lawrence Tech's Meltzer Retires from Coaching to Lead Athletic Department

SOUTHFIELD, MICH.- The Lawrence Tech Athletic Department is set to head into the next chapter of the modern era of athletics at Lawrence Tech, with Mary Ann Meltzer set to lead the Athletic Department effective July 1, 2023. This change, announced by President and CEO Dr. Tarek Sobh back in January internally, is a culmination of changes across campus that strategically align with the vision that Dr. Sobh has set forth as President of Lawrence Tech.

Long time Athletic Director and pioneer of the "Modern Era" of athletics here at Lawrence Tech, Scott Trudeau, will be heading into a new role within the University. That new role comes in the form of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, a department that has seen the addition of former Dean of Students and now Vice President Kevin Finn, who transitioned into his new role of VP of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement in January. Trudeau's new role will still have him working with athletics but in a different capacity this time as the new fundraising director for athletics, a first-of-its-kind at Lawrence Tech.

Meltzer, who is coming off a National Championship in Women's Lacrosse this season, beating SCAD-Savannah back on May 6th, has slowly been transitioning internally, working closely with Trudeau to learn the day-to-day of his role. Meltzer became an administrator in 2018 as a Senior Women's Leader and has been learning from day one. Her experience over the past six years helping guide the department in various roles and responsibilities has shown that she is more than capable of the next step.

During her time as SWL, Assistant Athletic Director, and Associate Athletic Director, she has led initiatives in mental health awareness on campus, worked closely with the Student Athletic Leadership Team (SALT) on initiatives to better improve athletics at Lawrence Tech, mentored numerous coaches, staff, and student-athletes, and worked alongside numerous other internal and external audiences on improvements for LTU Athletics and the University as a whole.

Meltzer will work alongside Trudeau over the final few weeks of June to ensure a smooth transition before she takes over as Athletic Director. Over the next few weeks, as Meltzer finalizes her executive team and lays the groundwork for her vision, staff changes will be announced appropriately.
