Aquinas wins Women's Soccer Tournament title in overtime

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - (TOURNAMENT PAGE) - Aquinas scored the match's lone goal in overtime for a 1-0 win against UNOH to claim the 2021 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women's Soccer Tournament. The tournament crown is the third for the Saints (2007, 2018).

Aquinas came out firing in the first half, outshooting the Racers 14-4 and held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Just 59 seconds into the match, Ariana Garcia sent a shot at the UNOH goal only to have Martina Galloni make the save. Galloni made three more saves before the end of the half for a scoreless period.

Aquinas' defense limited the Racers again to just four shots in the second half, three of which were saved by Tairyn Webb. AQ's Hannah Crum had a good look at the 87:19 mark, but her shot was saved by Galloni to send the match into overtime.

Crum sent a ball high a litle over a minute into the extra period and then the two teams traded fouls. Laia Cunill then sent one toward the UNOH net at the 93:11 mark only to be denied by Galloni, but Ingrid Hentemann knocked the rebound into the net for the golden goal.
