Aquinas upset at NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - (NAIA Release) - The seventh-seeded Aquinas women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker in overtime to tenth-seeded Oregon to end their season at the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship being played at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. Aquinas finishes its season with a school-record 21-2-1 campaign.

The two teams combined for only five shots and two corner kicks in the first half. Sydney Shenk got the first look for the Saints at the 28:30 mark only to see Oregon Tech's keeper Alyx Burkhartzmeyer come up with the save. The Owls countered eight minutes later when Amanda Seward sent one toward the net. Braeleigh McCoy made the stop in goal for AQ to preserve the scoreless tie. McCoy made another save at the 40:22 mark before the period ended.

The tempo stepped up a bit in the second period as Oregon Tech got off five shots to Aquinas' two. Mehana Ortiz struck first 10 minutes into the half only to have McCoy record her third save. McCoy kept the Owls off the scoreboard with two more saves in the half while the Saints never got a good look at the net. OIT dominated the extra period outshooting Aquinas 3-0 in the six minutes played. Kyra Mull of Oregon Tech scored the golden goal in the 96th minute as the ball pinned around in the box and ended up in the right corner of the net to end the Saints' season.
