Top seeds Fall in PKs as #4 Lawrence Tech and #3 UNOH advance to finals

The semifinal round of the 2023 WHAC Women's Soccer Tournament featured a pair of thrilling upsets as both of the lower seeds advanced to the finals via penalty kicks. #1 Siena Heights was knocked off by #4 Lawrence Tech and #2 Aquinas fell in PKs to #3 UNOH. The #3 vs. #4 matchup means UNOH will host the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 11. After winning the tournament each of the last two years, Aquinas falling means a  new team will punch their ticket to the NAIA National Championship as Aquinas will look to secure an at-large bid. 

#4 Lawrence Tech 0 def. #1 Siena Heights 0 ( PKs)

Siena Heights, who hadn't lost a match all year, fell in the semifinal round to Lawrence Tech by way of penalty kicks. After 90 minutes of regulation and two scoreless overtime periods, It finally went to penalty kicks. Lawrence Tech won in PKs 4-1 to earn a trip to the WHAC title game against #3 UNOH. 

#3 UNOH 1 def. #2 Aquinas (PKs)

For the second time this season, these two teams played 90 minutes without a goal. They each finally found the back of the net in the second overtime. Vivian Purmomen scored her scored just the third goal all year against Aquinas in the 103rd minute. It looked like it might be the game winner but Aquinas' Laia Cunill scored just two minutes later in the 105th minute to tie the game and eventually send things to PKs. It took nine rounds but UNOH finally persevered and punched their ticket to the WHAC title game on Saturday. 

Lawrence Tech is playing for its first-ever WHAC tournament title while UNOH is looking for its first since 2019.
