Siena Heights and UNOH Advanced to NAIA National Championship Second Round

The WHAC officially has three teams in the second round of the 2023 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship after Siena Heights and UNOH both took care of business on Thursday afternoon. They join Aquinas who earned a first round bye. Aquinas will host Saint Ambrose on Saturday at 1 pm. Siena Heights will remain in Spring Arbor, Mich. and will take on host Spring Arbor at 2 p.m. UNOH remains in Williamsburg, Ky. and will play host Cumberlands at 6 p.m.

UNOH 1, Georgia Gwinnett 0

A second half goal and great defense is what it took for the Racers to push past Georgia Gwinnett in opening round action on Thursday. UNOH used a goal from WHAC Newcomer of the Year Patricia Blazquez in the 52nd minute to take the lead and never looked back. Keeper Sophia Eisner sent seven shots away to earn the clean sheet and send UNOH on to the second round where they will face #3 overall seed Cumberlands. Live video and stats will be available for the 6 p.m. match.

Siena Heights 2, Trinity Christian 1

Siena Heights never trailed in their opening round victory as they remaind undefeated on the season. The Saints' Marissa Young scored off a Lily Tiplady assist in the 36th minute to make it 1-0. In the 55th minute, Emily Broman scored off the Maddie Morris assist to extend the lead to 2-0. Trinity Christian scored in the final minute of play to make it 2-1 but it wasn't enough as Siena Heights advanced to the second round. They will play host and #2 overall seed Spring Arbor at 2 p.m in a battle of unbeaten teams. Live video and stats will be available.
