WHAC Teams End Seasons in Opening Round of NAIA Women's Basketball

Both Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) teams were eliminated on the opening day of the 2022 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship Opening Round presented by Ballogy. Indiana Tech suffered a 51-44 loss to Pikeville (Ky.) while Rochester lost to Campbellsville (Ky.), 85-72. This is the second year for a single division within the NAIA with teams playing on host sites for the opening round. The winners of the opening rounds advance to the final site March 17-22, 2022 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

No. 12 Pikeville (Ky.) def. No. 5 Indiana Tech, 51-44 box score
In a defensive battle that saw Indiana Tech hold Pikeville to its second-lowest point total, Bears outlasted a fourth-quarter surge to eliminate Indiana Tech. The Warriors tied the score with 6:22 remaining in the game, but Pikeville held a five-point lead three minutes later. Taya Andrews hit a pair of free throws with 1:18 left to cut the deficit to two points, but could not get closer. Pikeville improves to 19-13 and advances to meet Bryan (Tenn). Indiana Tech's season ends at 30-3.

Campbellsville (Ky.) def. Rochester (Mich.), 85-72 box score
In a high-scoring contest, Campbellsive shot 48% from the floor to eliminate Rochester. After trailing by seven after two quarters, the Warriors weren't able to stop the Tigers and trailed by double digits midway through the third. Elysia Mattos cut the deficit to five at the 5:47 mark in the fourth. Campbellsville scored the next six points and put the game out of reach. CU improved to 30-4 and advances to meet Benedictine (Kan.). Rochester's season ends at 23-10.
