Indiana Tech Punches Ticket to Round of 16

KANSAS CITY, Mo - (NAIA Release) (Bracket) For the first time since the 2018-19 season, Indiana Tech Women's Basketball has punched its ticket to the NAIA National Championship Final Site in Kansas City, Mo. The Warriors earned a pair of wins over the weekend, knocking of No. 11 St. Thomas (Fla.) 69-39 on Friday before defeating No.3 seed and opening round host John Brown (Ark.) 52-43 on Saturday to advance to the round of 16. The only other WHAC school in the field this year, Siena Heights, saw its season come to a close on Friday with a 73-56 loss to No. 3 Cumberland (Ky.) on Friday. SHU finishes the year with a 27-5 overall record.

Indiana Tech will face No. 7 Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Friday, March 22 in Kansas City at 9 PM EDT. Briar Cliff knocked off No. 2 Vanguard to advance to the final site. 

No. 6 Indiana Tech def. No. 11 St. Thomas (Fla.) 69-39 Box Score

In what proved to be a theme for the weekend, the Indiana Tech defensive effort was superb and led the way to a victory over St. Thomas 69-39 on Friday. The Warriors held St. Thomas to just 28.8% shooting from the field and 5.6% (1-of-18) from three point range in the winning effort. Additionally, Indiana Tech outrebounded St. Thomas 45-27. Taylor Covington had 12 points and three assists while Korryn Smith and Erika Foy had 11 each. Whac Player of the Year, Foy, also had a block, a steal and seven rebounds. Bethany Worm led the IT offensive attack with 21 points of 8-of-11 shooting including a perfect 4-for-4 mark from range. 

No. 6 Indiana Tech def. No. 3 John Brown (Ark.) 52-43 Box Score

The game started off slowly for Indiana Tech, who trailed 14-7 after the first quarter, but a persistent offensive effort combined with holding John Brown to nine points in two of the next three quarters was a recipe for success for the Warriors. Erika Foy led all scorers with 23 points along with two steal, a block, an assist and nine rebounds. Juliana Burris added 13 and six board while Taylor Covington chipped in 10 with five rebounds. Indiana Tech held John Brown to 25% from the field and 4-of-25 from three (16%)


No. 3 Cumberlands (Ky.) def. No. 14 Siena Heights 73-56 Box Score

Siena Heights saw its season come to a close on Friday, March 15 following its opening round game against host Cumberlands. Cumberlands used a big first half, outscoring SHU 43-24. Siena Heights found some success in the second half, outscoring Cumberlands 32-30, but it wasn't enough to overcome the first half deficit. Kayla Hinton led the Saints with 16 points followed by Madison Vice who chipped in 11 off the bench. E'Anna Won scored 10 and pulled down eight boards.
