MLB Opening Day has WHAC connection

BOSTON, Mass. - Opening day of the 2023 MLB baseball season had a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) connection at Fenway Park. Former WHAC pitchers Kaleb Ort and John Schreiber were both on the opening day Red Sox roster. 

Ort, who played at Aquinas, pitched 2.0 innings against Baltimore and had one strikeout. Schreiber, who played for UNOH, did not enter the game.

This is Ort's second season in Boston. Last year, the right-hander appeared in 25 games and pitched 28.1 innings. He had one save and struck out 27. 

Schreiber started his career with Detroit where he appeared in 28 games over two years striking out 33 and finishing with a 2-1 record. The rightie saw one game in 2021 for Boston and struck out five in 3.0 innings. Last season he posted a 4-4 record and had nine saves while pitching 65.0 innings in 64 games. He struck out 74 and had a career-best 2.22 ERA.
