Rochester to add esports in 2022

ROCHESTER, Mich. - (RU Release) - Rochester University announced the addition of esports as a varsity sport for the 2022-23 competition year. The Warriors also hired Chris Ainhorn to be the first head coach of the program. Ainhorn helped start the esports program at Oakland University and has had success with the Golden Grizzlies.

This year marks the first year for esports as a WHAC sport and features three separate seasons: Rocket League, Overwatch, and League of Legends. RU will bring the total number of schools sponsoring the sport in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) to eight, joining Aquinas, Cleary, Concordia, Indiana Tech, Lawrence Tech, Lourdes, and Siena Heights as schools that sponsor the sport.
