Indiana Tech's Haney named Player of the Year, Six WHAC Bowlers named All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – (NAIA Release)The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2023-24 NAIA Men's Bowling All-America teams on Wednesday, prior to the start of the National Championship in Sterling Heights, Mich. Additionally, the Special Awards of Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year were released. 

Brandon Haney from Indiana Tech was voted the NAIA Player of the Year as he was the national leader in individual frame fill percentage at 89.7%; in the same category for traditional format he was fourth at 90.6% and sixth in baker format at 88.1%. Overall, he was third in individual scoring average at 21.717 spread across 796 total frames and fifth in strike percentage, 57.8%, and first in individual single pin spare percentage at 97.1% on 172 attempts. In the category of individual first ball average pin fall, Haney ranked fifth with 9.18 across 806 attempts.

The 2023-24 NAIA Men's Bowling Coach of the Year is awarded to Jon Putti from Lawrence Tech (Mich.) who guided the Blue Devils to their first Red Banner a year ago. LTU ranks first overall in team scoring average at 20.852 across 5,140 frames as well as being atop the traditional format and baker format ranks as well. They are the national leader in fill percentage at 86.7% combined and third in overall strike percentage at 53.31%.

The Executive Committee along with a member from each conference/grouping has a representative on the All-American Committee, in addition to current board and advisory board members. The committee met after the conclusion of conference tournament events for All-American selection. The fifteen players agreed upon by the formed committee will be named All-Americans with five being placed on the first team, second team, and third team. The same committee also selects the Player of the Year Rookie of the Year award winners. The selection committee will determine which players qualify for All-American consideration based upon Field Average, Average Games bowled, Average Differential, Top 5, Top 10 and 1st place finishes for individual standings.
