LTU Wins 2024 Men's Golf Championship
AUGUSTA, Mich. - (Complete Results) Lawrence Tech Men's Golf returned to the top of the podium, winning the 2024 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) championship on Stoatin Brae Course at Gull Lake View Resort on Saturday. The Blue Devils held off defending champion University of Northwestern Ohio by five strokes to claim the team title with a three-round +40, 892 score. UNOH finsihed in second with a 897, +45 with Cornerstone close behind in third place with a 902 (+50).
UNOH held a narrow one-stroke lead after the first round of Friday's 36-hole day, shooting a 296. LTU regained the lead and never looked back with a 296 second round, four stroke better than UNOH. In the final round of the tournament on Saturday, LTU shot 299 to hold off UNOH who shot 301 and Cornerstone who shot the low round of the tournament with a team total of 291 to move them into third.
The win is the third in the last four years for Lawrence Tech. They will compete in the NAIA National Championship in Dalton, Georgia on May 21-24.
Luke Turner of UNOH was the tournament medalist, winning the three-round event with a +6 219. Turner fired a one-under 70 in round one followed by rounds of 75 and 74. Lawrence Tech's Luis Pacheco finished second with a +8 221 (74, 73, 74). UM-Dearborn's Mahmoud Saad tied for third with a +9 222 (71, 77, 74). LTU's Liam McEvoy and Martin Wing also shot +9 to tie for third and round out the top five individual finishers.
