WHAC Teams Eliminated from Men's Soccer National Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - (NAIA Results) - All three WHAC teams ended their seasons in the 2022 NAIA Men's Soccer Opening Round. Madonna lost a heartbreaker to Williams Baptist (Ark.) on PKs in the Marshall Bracketto finish at 15-0-6 while UNOH lost 2-1 in snowy conditions to end at 14-3-4 in the Mishawaka Bracket. Indiana Tech advanced from its first match against Cumberlands (Ky.) on PKs, but dropped a 2-0 bid against Dalton State (Ga.) to close out at 12-3-7.

Williams Baptist (Ark.) advanced over Madonna, 1-1 (4-2 PK)
The Crusaders struck first in the first half with a penalty kick goal by Wagner Gameiro in the 20th minute for a 1-0 heading into the half. Williams Baptist answered just 1:17 into the second half when Daniel Oliveira connected in the lower right corner off a pass from Tiago Alfieri for a 1-1 tie. After that, the game came to a stalemate as both teams gave themselves plenty of chances but were unable to capitalize and the second half to force overtime. Neither team scored in the following two extra periods to force a shootout where Williams Baptist gained the edge to advance. Youssou Ouendeno recorded seven saves in the heartbreaking loss.


Hastings (Neb.) def. UNOH, 2-1
Hastings scored in the 21st minute when Paul Obrusnik found Lukas Goetz for a 1-0 Bronco lead. With snow falling at an increasinly rate, the teams continued to fight until the match was eventually halted with just under 14 minutes left to play in the first half. After a two-hour delay, UNOH evened the score in the 41st minute when Jovaunn Ramos beat the Hastings keeper one-on-on and put the ball into an open net. The temperature continued to drop and the snow continued to fall as the two teams opened the second half. The dagger came in the 76th minute when Goetz caught the Racers out of position and scored the go-ahead goal for Hastings. Ben Parkinson made two saves in goal for the Racers.


Indiana Tech advanced over Cumberlands (Ky.), 0-0 (3-1 PK)
It took a penalty shootout to determine the winner after 110 scoreless minutes. Indiana Tech shot second in the shootout and won 3-1 after the Patriots missed three penalties. Lucca Motta, Luke Jones, and David Ambaek all scored from the spot in the shootout to help Tech advance to the next round. Jaume Salvado made four saves in the game to earn the shutout and force a shootout.


Dalton State (Ga.) def. Indiana Tech, 2-0
Top-seeded Dalton State scored early in each half to eliminate Indiana Tech. The Roadrunners got a goal in the sixth minute when Lenoardo Seixas set up Justin Riescher. Seixas had another assist at the 45:32 mark when Josh Ramos scored. Dalton State (16-1-3) closed out the match with a 12-2 shot advantage and a 3-1 lead in corner kicks. Juame Salvado made four saves in the losing effort.
