SHU's Gipple, Madonna's Blacknel win weekly awards

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, presented by PCC Sports, earlier today. Student-athletes are nominated by their host institutions' sports information department and selected via a vote by conference SID's.

WHAC SID's have selected Deveyon Blacknell (Madonna) as the Track Athlete of the Week and Matthew Gipple (Siena Heights) as the Field Athlete of the Week. Blacknell won the 200m dash at the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invite with a time of 21.35, good for an NAIA A standard. He followed that up by helping the 4x400m team win with a time of 3:21.30. Gipple won the long jump at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic with a leap of 7.33m, an NAIA A standard. He also competed in the 60m, finishing second with a time of 6.97. Both athletes win their first WHAC Athlete of the Week awards this season.
