2024 Men's Wrestling Honors Released

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) released its conference honors for men's wrestling in conjunction with the league tournament on Saturday, Feb. 10. All 'of the year' honors are selected via a vote by head coaches. 

Wrestler of the Year – Logan Wagner, Marian

Marian junior Logan Wagner was named Wrestler of the Year after winning the 141-pound weight class. He was the top-seed in the weight class and won twice by pin and once by decision to win at 141 pounds. Wagner won the weight class for the second-consecutive year and is now a three-time NAIA qualifier.

Newcomer of the Year – Jonathan Kervin, Indiana Tech

Jonathan Kervin of Indiana Tech earned Newcomer of the Year. The redshirt sophomore entered the tournament as the top-seed in the weight class and cruised through his day with a tech fall and two major decision victories to earn the title.

Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament – Will Speight, Lourdes

Will Speight of Lourdes was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament for his title at 184 pounds. The top seeded senior from Lourdes used two tech falls and a major decision to secure the title and punch his ticket to nationals. 

Coach of the Year - Wesley Maskill, Rochester

Rochester head coach Wesley Maskill was selected by conference coaches as the WHAC Coach of the Year award after leading the Warriors to their best finish in program history in 2023-24. Rochester finished second in the WHAC regular season standings with a 5-1 dual record. 

Champion of Character Coach - Derrik Marry, Siena Heights

Siena Heights head coach Derrik Marry was voted by his peers as the Champions of Character Coach.

In addition to the individual honors above, winners of each weight class at the conference tournament were named First-Team All-Conference and runner-ups were awarded Second-Team All-Conference. The WHAC also released its All-Academic Team (juniors or above in academic standing, in attendance one full year, minimum 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale) and Champions of Character Team (best exemplifies the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, servant leadership, and sportsmanship).
