Madonna and Concordia to Play for Softball Tournament Title

SYLVANIA, Ohio - (TOURNAMENT PAGE) - After a historical first day where the top two seeds bowed out, the second day of the 2023 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) played out according to the seeding as the top two remaining seeds advanced to the championship game at Pacesetter Park. Third-seeded Concordia will play No. 4 Madonna at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 4. 

After going 2-0 on the first day, Madonna was the first to punch its ticket to the championship game with a 2-1 win in eight innings over Cornerstone to remain unbeaten. Gabby Toth hit a homerun to left center in the bottom of the extra inning for the win and send Cornerstone to the consolation bracket.

No. 6 UM-Dearborn beat yesterday's Cinderella eighth-seeded Lawrence Tech 4-0 to end the Blue Devils' run. The Wolverines plated a run in the first inning and scored three more times in the third. 

Concordia started the day with one loss and won three on Day 2 to make it to the championship game on Friday. The Cardinals eliminated No. 5 Aquinas 6-5 to start the day as they scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the game. CUAA then defeated UM-Dearborn 4-3 with another bottom of the seventh score for the win. Concordia and Cornerstone faced off in the final game of the day where a monsterous six-run second period captapulted Concordia to the championship match with a 7-2 victory.

The championship game is set for 1 p.m. on Friday with the "If Necessary" game schedule for 30 minutes after the completion of the first game. Madonna needs one win while Concordia will need to win two.
