Lawrence Tech Wins First WHAC Women's Golf Championship
AUGUSTA, Mich. - (Individual Results | Team Results)For the first time in program history, Lawrence Tech Women's Golf has claimed the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) championship. The Blue Devils had a stellar two-day, three-round showing at Stonehedge Golf Club in Augusta, Mich. to claim the title and a host of honors along the way.
The Blue Devils posted a three-round team total of 939 , 15 strokes better than second-place UNOH (954). The win for LTU snaps a six-year championship streak for the Racers. Cleary checked in at third place with a 981 followed by Siena Heights (1005) and Cornerstone (1021) to round out the top five.
Lawrence Tech's Tanawan Vetchayanvivat had a phenomenal tournament. She shot 73, 73 on day one, then came out on Wednesday and fired a six-under 66 to secure tournament medalist honors as well as WHAC Golfer of the Year accolades. Siena Heights' Skylar Whitman finished in second with a 223 (74,76,73) followed by defending Golfer of the Year, Sharifah Binyahya of UNOH who was third with a 224 (77,71,76). Kudzai Mandava (231) and Candance Beuckelare (235) rounded out the top five individual scores.
With the win, LTU earns a bid to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship. This year, it will take place at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti. The tournament runs from May 13-16.
