Higher seeds advance in Women's Lacrosse Tournament

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - (TOURNAMENT PAGE) - The opening day of the 2023 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women's Lacrosse Tournament saw the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds advance. Third-seeded Marian eliminated No. 6 Bethel 17-9 while No. 4 Indiana Tech ousted fifth-seeded Siena Heights 19-9. Tech now faces top-seeded Lawrence Tech on April 20 in a rematch of last year's semifinals while Marian travels to second-seeded Aquinas. Both games are slated for 5 p.m.


#4 Indiana Tech (10-4) def. #5 Siena Heights (5-10), 19-9
The teams got a slow start scoring two goals apiece in the opening period. A pair of early second-quarter goals by Hannah Merrick helped the Saints take a 4-3 lead, but Indiana Tech answered with the next seven goals spurred by three from Brooke Buhr. After Tech widened the gap to 11-4 early in the third, Grace Holland led SHU on a four-goal run with two of her own as the Saints closed the margin to 11-8. The Warriors scored the final goal of the third and scored seven of the eight goals recorded in the fourth to seal the victory.

#3 Marian (12-4) def. #6 Bethel (7-9), 17-9
Marian jumped to a 3-0 lead and led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. Katelynn Gray opened the second with a pair of goals to spark Marian to an 8-3 advantage at the half as the Knights outscored Bethel 4-1. In the third quarter, the Pilots matched Marian goal-for-goal until Ashlynn Gray found the cage as time expired to give Marian a 14-8 lead after three. Marian scored the first three goals in the fourth and Alyssa Lundy grabbed the last goal of the season for Bethel to close out the match.
