Top Two Seeds Prevail in Women's Soccer Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - (TOURNAMENT PAGE) - The top two seeds in 2022 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women's Soccer Tournament advanced to the championship game as No. 1 Aquinas and No. 2 Madonna shutout out their semifinal opponents. Aquinas eliminated fifth-seeded Siena Heights 5-0 while Madonna blanked sixth-seeded Lourdes 2-0.

Madonna now travels to Aquinas for the championship match slated for Nov. 12 at noon. Regardless of the outcome, both teams have now qualifed for the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round. Aquinas took the first auto berth with the regular-season and Madonna will take the second berth either as tournament champion or tournament runner-up.

Semifinals
#1 Aquinas (17-2-1) def. #5 Siena Heights (11-5-4), 5-0
AQ got a hat-trick from the team's all-time leader in goals Hannah Crum, all in the second half, and got the other two goals from Sydney Shenk to continue its unbeaten streak at home. The lone goal in the first half came from Shenk on a penalty spot. Aquinas scored three goals in eight minutes in the second half sparked by Crum's score off a cross from Brittney Carter at the 45:45 mark. Two-and-a-half minutes later, Shenk scored her second goal off a pass from Katelyn Kahael. Crum got her second score almost six minutes later and finished off her hat trick with the final goal of the match in the 73rd minute when Shenk took the ball off of SHU's keeper and tapped it to Crum for the open net score.

#2 Madonna (15-4-1) def. #6 Lourdes (9-5-4), 2-0
The Crusaders got a pair of first-half goals from Holly McManus and Sydnie Voss that stood for the victory. Voss found the back of the net at the 10:22 mark off an assist by Morgan Stack for the 1-0 lead. Voss then led McManus in the 28th minute for a 2-0 lead. MU's defense held the line, holding Lourdes to just five shots on the day.
