Top Seeds Prevail on Day One at Women's Tennis Tournament

MAUMEE, Ohio - (TOURNAMENT PAGE) - Play at the 2023 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women's Tennis Tournament followed the seeding at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club. Top seed Cornerstone received a bye in the first while the other six teams competed. 

Fourth-seeded Lawrence Tech opened the tournament with a 4-0 against the host team, Lourdes. The Blue Devils took the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions and then won at No. 1, 2, and 6 singles.

Third -seeded Indiana Tech eliminated Aquinas 4-0 in the final quarterfinal match. The Racers won the No. 2 doubles spot and then won at No. 3 by deafult as Aquinas could not field a duo. UNOH also won by default at No. 6 singles before taking the No. 1 and No. 2 matches

 

Second-seeded Indiana Tech defeated No. 7 Concordia 4-0 by winning the doubles point and the No. 2, 3, and 4 singles matches.

In the semifinals, both of the top seeds won their respective matches. Cornerstone took care of Lawrence Tech 4-0 with wins at No. 1 an No. 2 doubles and the first three singles matches.

Indiana Tech wrapped up the day with a 4-0 blank of UNOH. The Warriors took No. 1 and No. 3 doubles for the point and won the No. 3-5 singles.

Tech and Cornerstone will play in the championship match on Saturday, April 29 at 4 p.m. The winner receives the league's automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship.
