Smith and Hebner win Hockey Player of the Week Honors

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its Ice Hockey Player of the Week Awards, presented by PCC Sports, earlier today. Student-athletes are nominated by their host institutions' sports information department and selected via a vote by conference SID's.

This week, the WHAC SIDs have chosen Concordia's Derek Hebner as the Defensive Player of the Week and Indiana Tech's Avery Smith as the Offensive Player of the Week. Hebner was highly involved from his defensive position as Concorida split the weekend with Cleary in WHAC action. Hebner either assisted or scored on five of the teams 12 goals over the weekend. Smith wins Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week thanks to his four goals and three assists on the weekend. Smith helped the Warriors to a sweep of Aquinas, outscoring them 14-3. Smith had a hat trick in Friday's game and recorded three assists and a goal on Saturday.
