Smith and Tome Earn Player of the Week Honors

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) has announced its Ice Hockey Player of the Week Awards, presented by PCC Sports, earlier today. Student-athletes are nominated by their host institutions' sports information department and selected via a vote by conference SID's.

This week, the WHAC SIDs have chosen Brett Tome (Lawrence Tech) as the Defensive Player of the Week and Wes Smith (Cleary) as the Offensive Player of the Week. Tome wins the award for the second time this season thanks to a 2-0 record and 14 saves. He led the Blue Devils to a 2-0 week over Rochester to improve to first place in the standings. Wes Smith of Cleary had four goals and an assist in Saturday's 7-3 win over Concordia. He scored three consecutive goals in the third quarter to post the natural hat trick. His second goal of the evening was the game-winner.
